II-VI adds S-Band, extended L-Band capabilities to WaveShaper Programmable Optical Processor line

July 2, 2020
The WaveShaper family of reconfigurable filter instruments now can be programmed to arbitrary attenuation and phase profiles from 1468 nm to 1640 nm.

II‐VI Inc. (NASDAQ: IIVI) says that technicians can now use the company’s WaveShaper Programmable Optical Processors in S-Band and extended L-Bands applications. As a result, the WaveShaper family of reconfigurable filter instruments now can be programmed to arbitrary attenuation and phase profiles from 1468 nm to 1640 nm.

The new instruments are available in both single- and four-port configurations. The latter instruments enable optical multiplexing and demultiplexing as well as power-splitting with programmable spectral profiles, says II-VI. The WaveShaper instruments feature an integrated web server that supports a graphical user interface (GUI) and an applications programming interface (API).

“WaveShaper is truly a unique test and measurement product line that has gained in popularity over the years for use in optical communications, both in advanced laboratories and manufacturing environments,” said Dr. Sanjai Parthasarathi, chief marketing officer at II-VI Inc. “The new product variants are available just in time to assist an increasing number of research activities that aim to broaden the optical transmission window from the C-Band to the S- and extended L-bands.”

The new WaveShaper instruments are available now. II-VI gained the WaveShaper portfolio as part of its acquisition of Finisar (see "Finisar intros programmable optical processor for instrumentation market").
