March 6, 2006 Hayward, CA -- Glimmerglass, a provider of intelligent optical switches for light stream management, has introduced its "low profile, high density" System 600. According to the company, at approximately half the height of its current product line, the new product represents a dramatic improvement for developers of both commercial networks and mission-critical networking systems for government and defense applications.
The company says it developed the System 600 for size and power-constrained environments that require reliable, remotely controlled management. Housed in a 4 RU chassis and operating "with less power than a light bulb," the company says the system supports a range of ports up to 160 x 160, while featuring integrated optical power level monitoring, variable optical attenuation, photonic multicasting, and other capabilities.
"Our new System 600 model is perfect for system integrators seeking remotely-controlled, light stream management in both defense and telecommunications applications," contends Glimmerglass CEO Robert Lundy. "This product establishes a new industry benchmark for optical switches. It's a significant contribution to the industry."
The system is on display in the company's booth #2565 at this week's OFC/NFOEC 2006 in Anaheim, CA.
