Albis Optoelectronics: APD20D1 – 28-Gbd APD with High Optical Damage Threshold

Feb. 6, 2022
The Albis APD20D1 is a bottom-illuminated ultra-high-speed avalanche photodiode (APD) for the design of high-sensitivity 28G receivers.
The Albis APD20D1 is a bottom-illuminated ultra-high-speed avalanche photodiode (APD) for the design of high-sensitivity 28G receivers. Typical applications include 28-Gbaud PAM-4, 100GBASE-ER4, and 25G EPON. The APD has a large dynamic range and withstands high optical input powers which ensures operation up to overload conditions. The monolithically integrated backside lens focuses the incoming light beam on the topside detecting area. This increases the backside detecting diameter and enables easy and efficient optical coupling.

Judge’s Comment: “A product well suited for longer reach (ER or ER-like) datacom interconnect applications as it combines quality sensitivity for reach and high damage reliance for (inadvertent) back-to-back connection, previously a design limiting concern for such solutions.”
