Telefónica UK uses Juniper Networks for Fusión Network evolution

Oct. 1, 2019
The Fusión Network initiative aims to improve customer experience for mobile, residential, and business services globally, particularly as Telefónica roles out 5G mobile capabilities.

Juniper Networks says it has supplied a variety of hardware and software platforms for the first phase of Telefónica UK's services migration to the Telefónica UK Fusión Network. Juniper Networks is the strategic IP network provider for this infrastructure initiative (see "Telefonica to add Juniper Networks routers to Fusion Network core").

The Fusión Network initiative aims to improve customer experience for mobile, residential, and business services globally, particularly as Telefónica roles out 5G mobile capabilities. Telefónica Group has implemented this project in other regions ahead of the UK deployment, including a recent upgrade in Spain to support the evolution to 5G. As was the case with these earlier implementations, the Telefónica UK evolution combines legacy networks into a single, new IP network. The new infrastructure will reduce network complexity and increase flexibility and efficiency in infrastructure management and service creation, says Juniper Networks. It also will enable enhanced security and visibility to ensure regulatory compliance and customer data protection.

To support the Telefónica UK edition of the Fusión Network initiative, Juniper Networks has supplied:

"As we prepare for our 5G rollout from October 2019 with the end goal of building a 5G economy in coalition with British industry, we need a network infrastructure that benefits customers from the outset, with better speeds, intelligent security, and improved user experience,” commented Brendan O'Reilly, CTO at Telefónica UK. “This requires a network that is sophisticated, but also simpler to deploy, operate and maintain, which is why we chose Juniper as our strategic IP network provider. This overhaul of our network provides the flexibility, scalability, and performance to meet those demands."
