Centellax has released a quad-channel 28G surface-mount technology (SMT) modulator driver amplifier for 100 Gigabit Ethernet applications.

The Centellax OA3SSQL is a high-performance, 28-Gbps optical modulator driver with low jitter, 2.0-V amplitude and excellent gain and group delay flatness, the company says. Featuring over-molded plastic packaging, the OA3SSQL was built for maximum robustness and process compatibility, the Centellax adds. The device is intended as a 100G (4x25 Gbps) driver for electro-absorptive modulators (EAMs).

Other features of the OA3SSQL include limiting operation, 0.8 ps added RMS jitter, and 13 ps rise/fall time on the 2.0 Vpp. The gain is 15 dB and power dissipation is 0.25 W per channel.

The device comes in a surface mount package measuring 4x14.5x1.5 mm with single-ended inputs, single-ended outputs, and minimal requirement for external passives.

Centellax says it is currently developing a robust line of surface-mount products for regional, metro, and datacom markets. Transitioning its modulator driver module line for core applications to surface-mount technology has been a key mission, the company says. Centellax says it is leveraging its experience with IC design and packaging to create a strong line of lower power, lower cost surface-mount products for emerging telecom market applications.

“We are looking forward to showcasing our new line of SMT products at the upcoming OFC tradeshow in San Francisco. Our engineers have done a great job, and the feedback we have received from our key customers has been positive,” said David McCormick, Centellax telecom product manager.

Centellax will be exhibiting at booth #3479 at OFC 2014 in San Francisco, on March 11-13.
