Huawei Marine to build South Atlantic Inter Link undersea cable system

Huawei Marine contracted with China Unicom and Camtel (Cameroon Telecommunications) to build the South Atlantic Inter Link (SAIL) undersea cable system, marking the official beginning of the SAIL implementation phase. The SAIL submarine cable system is the first direct access cable to link developing regions of Africa and South America.

The SAIL submarine cable system is the first direct access cable to link developing regions of Africa and South America.

Backed by investment from China Unicom and Camtel, SAIL will connect Cameroon and Brazil over a 6,000-km run. The undersea cable system will use Huawei Marine's 100-Gbps technology and will have four fiber pairs and a design capacity of 32 Tbps.

Upon completion, the fiber cable system will offer intercontinental telecommunications infrastructure to support regional growth.

"SAIL not only provides high-quality international telecommunication services to countries in these two continents, but also better serves Chinese companies to develop their business in these region."

"When it's completed, it will provide new international connectivity, to facilitate bandwidth demand between Africa and South America and support the booming economies in the two continents."
