ARRIS (NASDAQ: ARRS) has unveiled the NVG578, a passive optical network (PON) gateway device. The PON gateway platform delivers several options to service providers that enable them to capitalize on investments in ultra-high-speed broadband applications, ARRIS says.

The NVG578 platform is designed to scale as service providers evolve their networks to meet demands from new services and faster speeds, including current GPON speeds and 10-Gbps symmetrical XGS-PON and NG-PON2 speeds.

The NVG578 delivers whole-home Gigabit WiFi on the wireless side, with options to offer 802.11ac and upgrade to 802.11ax in dual-band and tri-band configurations alike. The PON gateway includes ARRIS HomeAssure support to extend coverage and streamline WiFi for the end-user. The NVG578 also has optional IoT radio support that enables smooth smart-home integration, says the company.

ARRIS has also released the NVG558, a fixed wireless broadband gateway with integrated 4G LTE and 3.5GHz CBRS capabilities to support triple-play services, as well as the potential to support future 5G services. Both the NVG578 and NVG558 feature Docker container support, which ARRIS says enables accelerated time-to-market for new features and services.
