Nokia says Subisu has selected its GPON technology to broaden the Nepalese internet service provider's network and connect with new customers. Subisu will deploy a fiber to the home (FTTH)network across Province 2 of Nepal to deliver upgraded, reliable subscriber services, says Nokia. The FTTH network will give Subisu's subscribers access to new ultra-broadband applications and services once deployed, including digital television, IPTV, and high-speed internet services up to 1 Gbps.
The Nepal Telecom Authority (NTA) chose Subisu to construct the FTTH network for eight districts in Province 2 to progress the Nepalese government's plans for a digital society linking 90% of the population to broadband services by 2020.
According to Nokia, GPON fiber technology will enable Subisu to support the government's efforts to supply a communication backbone that can deliver ultra-broadband services to households throughout the nation. With Nokia's 7360 Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM) FX GPON, Subisu will be able to address mass-market fiber deployments. The provider will also leverage Nokia's 7368 ONT and professional services to efficiently complete the project.
"We are proud to collaborate with Nokia and believe that their technology knowhow and prowess will enable us to provide the best possible services for our subscribers," said Binaya Mohan Saud, Subisu's CEO. “The latest technology, deployed by Nokia, will help us retain our leadership position in the market and bring down the cost of network deployment and management, which in turn will allow us to improve efficiency of the network and lower the cost of operations."
Subisu's selection of Nokia's GPON technology follows recent announcements that Spectra chose the systems vendor's IP/MPLS routing and GPON technology for afiber-optic network build out, and ONE Broadband is also deploying its GPON technology in India to meet customers increasing demand for high-speed services and capacity (see “Spectra chooses Nokia's IP/MPLS routing and GPON technology for fiber-optic network build out" and "ONE Broadband deploying Nokia's GPON technology to meet high-speed service and capacity demands").
