Cable ONE Business (NYSE:CABO) has launched a fiber-based symmetrical 2 Gbps business Internet service, dubbed Piranha Fiber, in Fargo, ND.
The new Internet service is delivered over a passive optical network (PON) using shared bandwidth, which allows Cable ONE Business to spread its infrastructure costs over a broader customer base and offer the service at a price that's affordable for most small businesses. Several Piranha Fiber Internet plans are available, beginning with 50 Mbps and scaling to 2 Gbps. Pricing starts at $99.95 a month when bundled with Business Phone service for three years.
"Piranha Fiber is the first 2 gigabit shared fiber-optic Internet service available to businesses in the Fargo area," said Chris Boone, vice president of business services for Cable ONE. "While most national fiber providers are offering 1 gigabit service, we are the first to offer 2 gigabits. This puts Fargo on the map as one of first 2 gigabit cities in the country."
The company's newest fiber optic Internet service is initially available in parts of Fargo and West Fargo. It's scheduled to be available to additional businesses throughout the Fargo metro area by mid-2017.
"Cable ONE has invested more than $4.7 million in the Fargo and West Fargo area over the past five years on network upgrades and enhancements in order to bring the latest technology and fastest speeds to our customers," Boone said. "As part of our ongoing investment and with the launch of this new service, we're extending our plant to previously unserviceable areas. And we'll continue to invest throughout 2017 in order to make Piranha Fiber available throughout Fargo."
