Perimeta is a virtualized network function (VNF)-capable, software-based, carrier-class session border controller (SBC) designed to secure services in cloud environments and scale real-time communications services. And as one Diamonds judge pointed out, since the virtualized SBC is re-packetizing voice or data from the client access links, it is agnostic to the equipment brand in service.

Metaswitch VNFs allow new elements or entirely new networks to be turned up with minimal installation time, the company says. COTS hardware can be scaled or repurposed if business needs change. New services can be tested and trialed in multiple environments using SBC VNFs, and this gives the company the chance to see what sticks. In other words, only when the time is right do providers deploy new features and services to the production environment.
