At the NCTC's Independent Show in Indianapolis this week, ARRIS (NASDAQ:ARRS) announced the availability of three set-tops with the TiVo (NASDAQ:TIVO) user experience (UX) that are designed to support the NCTC VU-IT! Program. The VU-IT! Program is intended to enable independent operators to deliver integrated OTT services alongside standard cable programming.
The set-top portfolio includes the MG2 Cable Media Gateway, Mi4 IP Client and Qi3 Cable Set-Top/IP Client. The devices are designed to combine QAM video with the TiVo experience and OTT content, including Netflix and YouTube.
The new boxes incorporate UltraHD capabilities, including 4K and HDR, and also feature MoCA 2.0 home networking technology. Other box-specific features include:
- MG2 Cable Media Gateway - an HDR-ready six-tuner video gateway with a 1 TB hard drive and 4K support, as well as the ability to view live and DVR content on mobile devices and client devices such as the Mi4 and Qi3.
- Mi4 IP Client - an in-home 4K and HDR-ready multi-room DVR client to the Arris MG2 and MG1 video gateways, designed to enable existing subscribers to upgrade to 4K.
- Qi3 Cable Set-Top Client - an entry level TiVo product designed to operate as a standalone HD set-top using CAL-certified DTA security or as a multi-room DVR client to in-home video gateways such as the MG2 and MG1.
"ARRIS is showcasing the potential of NCTC's VU-IT! program to make next-generation IP content delivery accessible to all of our members," said Rich Fickle, NCTC president and CEO. "Their leadership in video CPE combined with their dedication to our membership is not only advancing the state of our industry, but raising the bar for TiVo deployments everywhere."
