Black Box corporation merges with Optech Fibres Ltd.

Aug. 28, 2001--Optech provides technical design, installation and maintenance services for premise cabling and related services to customers throughout the UK.

Black Box Corporation (Nasdaq:BBOX) announced a merger with privately held Optech Fibres Ltd. Established in 1993 in Dalton-in-Furness, United Kingdom, Optech provides technical design, installation and maintenance services for premise cabling and related services to customers throughout the UK. Annual revenues of Optech are approximately $2 million.

Commenting on the merger, Stephen C. Borley, UK Managing Director of On-Site Services, said, "Optech has strong technical skills in the design, installation and maintenance of fiber-optic systems. Their customer base is oriented towards manufacturing organizations, which complements our other UK businesses that are more oriented to service companies. In addition, Optech's headquarters are in Northwest England, which has the second highest level of business activity outside London."

This transaction is being accounted for as a purchase. The purchase price has not been disclosed.
