MARCH 23, 2010 -- Optical network specialist Nistica announced $6.5-million in Series C funding. Battelle Ventures led the round, with institutional investors Novitas Capital and Technology Venture Partners, and strategic partner Fujikura participating. One notable addition to the investor syndicate is NTT Electronics Corp. (NEL), a member of the NTT Group of Companies.

“We are seeing a huge growth in FTTH deployments and a surge in broadband demands across the world," says NEL president and CEO, Hiroshi Yoshimura. "This growth will translate into the need for low-cost agile devices closer to the edge of the optical networks. As a strategic investor, NEL will team up with Fujikura, Nistica’s manufacturing partner, to help facilitate new solutions for Japan and other targeted markets.”

With Telcordia certification completed on its FULL FLEDGE series of wavelength selective switches (WSS), the infusion of Series C funding enables Nistica to introduce solutions that enable colorless, directionless networks unconstrained by grids. Nistica also announced WSS modules capable of switching as many as 176 channels separated by 25 GHz; these modules are grid-flexible as wide as 200 GHz channel spacing.
