August 2, 2006 Irvine, CA -- SMC Networks will replace its SMCGS24-Smart with an upgraded model, the new EZ Switch 10/100/1000 SMCGS24C-Smart. Available now, the SMCGS24C-Smart incorporates all of the features of its predecessor, the SMCGS24-Smart, and more, including optional fiber connectivity at the same $399.99 MSRP.

"Our goal is to optimize performance and provide investment protection for our customers," said Iain Kenney, worldwide product manager for switching products at SMC Networks. "We are seeing rapid adoption of fiber in the workgroup, so that prompted us to enhance our popular 24-port Smart Switch to include optional fiber connectivity, as well as many other features with emerging popularity at the workgroup level, including cable diagnostics and IGMP snooping."

SMC Networks' new EZ Switch 10/100/1000 (SMCGS24C-Smart) 24-port gigabit smart switch has 24 Gigabit Ethernet ports that bring the speed of gigabit copper to the desktop with the added flexibility of four optional SFP fiber ports. Providing a flexible Web-based management interface to enable the configuration of switch features, port settings including security, QoS with four priority queues, link aggregation, and VLANs, the SMCGS24C-Smart facilitates increased throughput and flexibility in what were traditionally unmanaged networks and/or workgroups.

The launch of the new SMCGS24C-Smart follows last month's announcement of SMC TigerSwitch 1000, a 24-port 10/100/1000 Standalone Managed Switch (SMC8024L2) targeted to customers looking for a workgroup or small office managed switch.

"The 24-port market is a sweet spot at the moment, and customers are demanding more features to help improve network performance," added Kenney. "Customers are increasingly adding technologies such as VoIP and VLANs to their requirements lists, while still demanding optimum security with enhancements such as static port security and IGMP snooping. The new SMCGS24C-Smart delivers in all these key areas while maintaining an aggressive pricing structure."

SMC Networks' EZ Switch 10/100/1000 (SMCGS24C-Smart) is available now, at an MSRP of $399.99.
