Aligned Data Centers plans two new Phoenix data center campuses

Oct. 18, 2022
Aligned expects the two sites to offer a total of more than 400 MW of IT load and approximately 2 million square feet of space for hyperscale and enterprise customers.

Aligned Data Centers says it has purchased two plots of land in the Phoenix area with the intention of building a pair of data center campuses. Aligned expects the two sites to offer a total of more than 400 MW of IT load and approximately 2 million square feet of space for hyperscale and enterprise customers.

The company sees the Phoenix area as an emerging hotbed for data center services. The market offers significant fiber access infrastructure and a diverse energy mix. The latter aspect enables a relatively inexpensive power cost, while the area in general offers a low risk of natural disasters, particularly in comparison to California. The Phoenix area already services as the home of Aligned’s flagship data center campus.

“Aligned is focused on meeting the capacity demands of our customers today, while constantly innovating across every aspect of our business to ensure their future data center requirements will be met long term,” says Andrew Schaap, CEO of Aligned. “Our expansion in greater Phoenix is an example of Aligned’s power-first approach to asset procurement as well as strategic investments across our design and construction, supply chain and vendor managed inventory program, and team to deliver capacity at maximum speed and scale.”

The upcoming Phoenix sites are among the more than 470 MW of construction projects Aligned has either active or planned to beging this year. Other recent expansion announcements include a 36-MW data center in Dallas; a new multi-facility campus in Northern Virginia; a third hyperscale facility on its Salt Lake campus; the addition of a new data center to its existing Phoenix campus; a 36-MW facility in Chicago; and a multi-facility hyperscale campus in Frederick County, MD.
