January 30, 2006 Linthicum, MD -- Slovenian service provider T-2 announced that it has selected Ciena's CN 4200 FlexSelect advanced services platform to provide multiservice aggregation and transport for telephone, Internet, and television services delivered via VDSL to customers across Slovenia.

January 30, 2006 Linthicum, MD -- Slovenian service provider T-2 announced that it has selected Ciena's CN 4200 FlexSelect advanced services platform to provide multiservice aggregation and transport for telephone, Internet, and television services delivered via VDSL to customers across Slovenia.

Ciena says that its CN 4200, the "flagship product" of the company's FlexSelect architecture, is among the first multiservice transport and service aggregation platforms to enable flexible, service-selectable migration to packet services for networks transitioning from TDM, or for new networks such as T-2's, which incorporates ITU G.709 technology, software-defined service ports, remote service provisioning, and management capabilities.

"As an alternative carrier, we aim to offer fast, easy, and affordable access to VDSL broadband services to both our business and residential customers. When rolling out our network, we have consistently looked for the most reliable and future-proof technology to accommodate our growing customer base," comments Matevz Turk, managing director of T-2. "Ciena stood out as providing the best all-around solution, meeting our requirements for reliability, scalability, performance, and next-generation capabilities to deliver future services as needed."

The carrier says its VDSL technology enables customer downloads up to 100 Mbit/sec, enough bandwidth to support voice, video, and Internet requirements at a reasonable cost. T-2 says the ability of the CN 4200 platform to support high-bandwidth services has already enabled it to sign thousands of new customers, while ensuring capacity for additional growth. Currently, T-2 claims to be the only provider of VDSL technology in Slovenia that offers download speeds up to 50 Mbit/sec with bursts up to 100 Mbit/sec, uploads of 20 Mbit/sec with bursts up to 50 Mbit/sec.

"Ciena's focus on delivering application-focused solutions in high-growth areas such as broadband services and carrier-class Ethernet, in addition to our core networking market leadership, is helping service providers such as T-2 add more flexibility to their networks, quickly adapt to changing service requirements, and reduce service provisioning cycles," comments Francois Locoh-Donou, vice president of international sales at Ciena.

According to a press release, Smart Com, a certified Ciena reseller and provider of integrated communications and IT management services headquartered in Slovenia, worked closely with Ciena to deploy the CN 4200 in T-2's next-generation network.
