European broadband technology provider Iskratel has unveiled two universal next-generation PON products. The 8-port multi-PON blade and the 16-port GPON blade are designed to enable a profitable, controlled upgrade to next-generation networks, including NG-PON2 and XGS-PON.

The 8-port multi-PON blade concurrently supports NG-PON2 and XGS-PONtechnologies, making replacement of the existing PON infrastructure unnecessary, Iskratel attests. The NG-PON blade is flexible enough for operators to build on their currentGPON shelves, offering a pay-as-you-grow, gradual expansion to next-gen networks, the company adds.

The 8-port multi-PON blade and the 16-port GPON blade will both be launched at the FTTH Conference Europe February 13-15 in Valencia, Spain. Iskratel says it plans to introduce its Innbox G108 home gateway, complementing access to gigabit, ultra-broadband services over NG-PON by delivering Wi-Fi connectivity throughout the premises, at the event as well.

"Operators are looking to upgrade their networks to be able to offer competitive broadband services which keep up with growing bandwidth demands, without the hassle of replacing their current optical infrastructure – and this is exactly what our latest advancements in our PON solutions enable," said Damjan Slapar, Iskratel CTO. "Our solutions ensure complete reuse of existing infrastructure and coexist with previously employed PON technologies, empowering operators to remain ahead of user demands, as needs develop and use cases dictate."
