OCTOBER 24, 2006 -- Like the company's existing LC and SC OPTICAM pre-polished connector families, PANDUIT's (search PANDUIT) new ST OPTICAM pre-polished fiber-optic connectors provide field termination in less than half the time of field polish connectors, claim company representatives.

With patent pending re-termination capability, OPTICAM pre-polished connectors provide yield rates approaching 100%, says PANDUIT. Its OPTICAM pre-polished connectors offer flexibility in behind-the-wall (BTW) and main and intermediate cross-connect installations. The factory pre-polished fiber stub endface eliminates time-consuming field polishing to reduce installation costs, labor, scrap, and the number of tools required. According to the company, the OPTICAM technology features a dual cam design that secures both the fiber and buffer in one action to ensure consistent termination results and high fiber tensile load while reducing termination time.

All OPTICAM pre-polished connectors utilize the same OPTICAM termination tool to provide fast and easy terminations, say company representatives, who note that the user-friendly tool utilizes an integrated visual termination indicator (VTI) for identification of proper termination after the cam step has been completed. Together, these features virtually eliminate operator error and deliver yield rates approaching 100% for lower installed costs.
