MARCH 30, 2010 -- Draka Communications launched a new multi-purpose hybrid indoor cable which enables CATV, voice, and data transmission--all from a single cable installation.
The new cable allows wiring to meet current standards, while providing plug-and-play readiness for the coming generations of high-definition data and entertainment services. Draka showcases its multimedia indoor cables at the Light & Building exhibition in Frankfurt, April 11-16.
Draka believes this new cable will provide opportunities to fulfil connectivity requirements for homes, offices, and public buildings such as hospitals, which have constantly evolving technology infrastructures for essential internal services. Once installed, this multi-purpose infrastructure is expected to future-proof a building against investments due to coming generations of technology.
Draka presents a hybrid combination of U/UTP cat.6 together with bend-insensitive BendBrightXS singlemode, high-speed fibre for the simultaneous transmission of data, voice, and TV signals. An adjacent core carries a CATV drop cable for current services (some providers currently use CATV cables to bring in services using active hardware to split TV, Internet, and telephone signals). Draka’s CATV cables can be customized to meet local or regional specifications and can be produced on-demand with Draka’s flexible manufacturing process.
All components of the new hybrid cable are recognised industry standards. Industry-acclaimed BendBrightXS fibre meets today’s FTTH requirements for reduced bending radii in the closer confines of buildings, complying with ITU-T standard G.657.A+B2. Draka’s UC cable (Universal Cabling) brand conforms to global industry standards.
