MARCH 2, 2010 -- Transmode announced the availability of two new access offerings for applications such as high-capacity data access networks in the financial and media industries or cloud computing.
To address the rapidly growing bandwidth demands within access networks and deeper penetration of optical fiber, Transmode has developed two new access products designed to enable network operators to deploy cost-effective demarcation points in high-capacity customer premises applications.
The new products offer operators with two demarcation options: Layer 2 Ethernet demarcation for Ethernet networks and Layer 1 optical transport demarcation for OTN transport networks. These products are well suited for operators that typically require high-capacity and high-quality services with a managed demarcation point between the operator and the end customer, says a company representative.
The 10G Ethernet Access Solution provides Ethernet demarcation for either ten Gigabit Ethernet interfaces or a single 10G Ethernet interface. Using integrated Layer 2 Ethernet technology, the unit supports UNI and E-NNI functions for E-LINE, E-LAN, and E-Tree services as defined by the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF). When deployed in the ten Gigabit Ethernet configuration, the unit aggregates the 10 client signals together onto a 10G LAN signal.
The product also supports different bandwidth profiles and classes of service on a per-port or per-VLAN basis. Using a standard uplink, in this case 10G LAN, the platform can be deployed as a demarcation unit within any Ethernet network.
The 10G OTN access unit enables the network operator to provide 10G services, such as STM-64/OC-192 SDH/SONET, 10G LAN or WAN PHY Ethernet, or OTU-2/OTU-2e OTN services for transport over an OTN core network. Using standard OTN transport, the access node can be deployed within a Transmode optical network or any other OTN-based transport network.
