ADVA Optical Networking, a global provider of optical networking solutions announces a new three-year contract from BT Ignite, British Telecommunications' new broadband and Internet protocol (IP) data and solutions business, for its Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing optical access platform FSP-II.

ADVA Optical Networking (German Neuer Markt: ADV), a global provider of optical networking solutions announces a new three-year contract from BT Ignite, British Telecommunications' new broadband and Internet protocol (IP) data and solutions business, for its Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing optical access platform FSP-II. The FSP-II platform will form an integral part of BT Ignite's new range of Short Haul Data DWDM services known as "MetroWave".

Designed for Enterprise and Metropolitan Area Access Networks, the FSP-II will enable BT Ignite to provide services for enterprise Local Area Network (LAN) and Storage Area Network (SAN) applications. The FSP-II enables service providers to optimize the utilization of their networks and maximize the data traffic's speed. It is a transparent 32-channel Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) system, and is therefore capable of supporting ESCON, Fiber Channel, Gigabit Ethernet, STM-4, ATM 622 and Coupling Link applications, or any other interface ranging from 10 Mbps up to 2.5 Gbps. The Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) converter module capability allows the transmission of four Enterprise System Connection (ESCON) channels over one wavelength of light. Used in conjunction with the optical MuxDemux system, which bundles up to 32 wavelengths, the capacity of the FSP-II can now be increased from 32 to 128 ESCON channels.

ADVA's Metro DWDM solution enables BT Ignite to introduce a new range of high-bandwidth services to its customer base, including FTSE100 companies, banks, financial institutions, insurance companies and companies that need a high-speed data link between their sites. The systems are easily installed and configured, and provide an upgradeable, modular and scalable platform.

By deploying ADVA's FSP-II, BT Ignite can provide DWDM service offerings supporting high-speed voice, video or data applications, including disaster recovery, data archiving and mirroring, clustering of high-speed computers for parallel processing, and off-site data storage.
