Windstream Wholesale to offer U.S. to Europe connectivity with Colt and Aqua Comms

Nov. 8, 2022
The test of the service featured a roundtrip latency of less than 100 ms with no frame loss, Windstream asserts.

Windstream Wholesale says it has created a partnership with Colt Technology Services and Aqua Comms that enables it to offer low-latency, ultra-high-bandwidth wavelength services from the U.S. to Europe. A test of the service featured a roundtrip latency of less than 100 ms with no frame loss, Windstream asserts.

To prove the capabilities of the partnership, Windstream says it has demonstrated a 100-Gbps wavelength connection from Chicago on Windstream’s Intelligent Converged Optical Network (ICON) to New York and across the Atlantic to London and on to Frankfurt, Germany. Aqua Comms supplied the transatlantic submarine link while Colt extended the link from London to Frankfurt. Windstream says it expects to be able to offer 400G wavelengths in a similar manner in the future.

The partnerships enable Windstream to offer government, hyperscale, content, and other large-scale customer providers with access to more than 1,000 data centers and points of presence in Europe. “Windstream Wholesale is pleased to announce our first transatlantic 100G Wave in cooperation with Colt and Aqua Comms,” said Joe Scattareggia, chief revenue officer for Windstream Wholesale. “We are committed to best-in-class customer experience, and this three-way strategic partnership not only expands the reach of our low-latency, ultra-high Wave network, it also provides our customers with streamlined access with end-to-end connectivity from the U.S. to Europe for faster deployment.”
