Etern Optoelectronics offers ultra-low-shift DWDM thin film filter for 400G ZR modules

Aug. 4, 2022
The TFF offers a temperature shift in the -40~85℃ range of less than 0.11 pm/℃ as well as flatness of less than 0.3 nm.

Etern Optoelectronics says it now offers a 100-GHz DWDM thin film filter (TFF) that exhibits extremely small temperature shift. The TFF offers a temperature shift in the -40~85℃ range of less than 0.11 pm/℃ as well as flatness of less than 0.3 nm. These properties make the TFF a good choice for 400G ZR designs, the company asserts.

The temperature-shift performance results from Etern’s research in basic material technology that has enabled matching the temperature performance of TFF electrolyte film and silicon dioxide substrates. Etern says the flatness derives from the company’s investments in manufacturing, including coating machines, production and testing equipment, the use of ion-assisted deposition (IAD) technology, and an ultra-smooth polishing process.

“The technical breakthrough of temperature shift is a huge improvement in the TFF process, “said Harvey Liu, general manager of overseas business at Etern Optoelectronics. “We see the growth of DWDM transmission networks, especially the 400G ZR and Open ZR+, and the next-generation 800G ZR. The ultra-low temperature shift is the key performance factor to achieve narrow channel spacing in DWDM systems. With our technology, 75-GHz or even narrower channel spacing for DWDM is possible. We are delighted to provide a new possible design for DWDM transmission networks.”

Etern says the 100-GHz DWDM TFF is in mass production and commercial application. A 50-GHz DWDM TFF has completed small batch trial production. The company says it also will accept orders for customized CWDM4 and LWDM Z-block TFF and Z-block finished products.
