Lumentum: 200G PAM4 Externally Modulated Lasers (EMLs)

Feb. 7, 2023
Lumentum says that its 200G PAM4 EMLs enable a world highest bandwidth operation with conventional lumped-element electrode structure.
Lumentum says that its 200G PAM4 EMLs enable a world highest bandwidth operation with conventional lumped-element electrode structure. They can be operated at 50°C fixed operating temperature with a TE cooler, with minimized required input voltage swing to reduce the power consumption of related ICs. They are designed to provide superior waveform quality for PAM4 as well as the potential for PAM6 or PAM8 operation; planning CWDM and/or LAN-WDM four-channel support for various types of systems’ needs. Lumentum's EML is a photonic integrated circuit that consists of a distributed feedback (DFB) laser section, followed by a monolithically integrated electro-absorption modulator (EAM) to provide customers a single high-performance chip.
