September 15, 2005 Breinigsville, PA -- CyOptics has launched a new family of high-performance cooled 1550-nm transmit optical sub-assembly (TOSA) components. The company says the TOSAs are designed to power any multi-sourced agreement (MSA) optical module form factor, at 2.5- and 10Gbit/sec, including DWDM SFP, XFP, and other 10Gbit/sec transceiver and transponder modules, as well as next- generation optical line cards.

September 15, 2005 Breinigsville, PA -- CyOptics, a provider of Indium Phosphide (InP) chip and active optical component technologies, has launched a new family of high-performance cooled 1550-nm transmit optical sub-assembly (TOSA) components.

The company says the TOSAs consume no more than 0.3 W of power - a 4x reduction compared to current 2.5-Gbit devices, and a 10x reduction compared to current 10-Gbit devices.

"By supplying high performance optical TOSAs, we are enabling widespread adoption of new low-cost and flexible pluggable optical modules, for use in longer reach and multi-wavelength applications," says Ed Coringrato, CEO of CyOptics. "Furthermore, these new TOSAs are MSA-compatible and environmentally friendly, eliminating the use of hazardous materials as specified by emerging world standards."

"The market for telecom optical components grew in 2004 and will grow another 10% in 2005," comments Tom Hausken, director of optical components at research firm Strategies Unlimited. "The market recovery has not reduced the pressure on suppliers for lower power consumption and more compact packaging. CyOptics is applying its expertise in chip fabrication and packaging to expand its position in high-end components, which is one of the most promising opportunities within telecom."

CyOptics says its 1610-Series 2.5Gbit/sec TOSA is especially designed for the DWDM SFP market. The 1610 TOSA supports 120 km transmission; the 1611 TOSA supports 200 km transmission. Both products are in production. The company says its cooled 1620-Series 10Gbit/sec TOSA targets the emerging long reach XFP market, and is currently being sampled to customers. The company's 1625 TOSA supports 40 km transmission; the 1626 TOSA supports up to 80 km of transmission distance.

The company says the TOSAs are based on proprietary automated packaging technology to ensure the high quality at a low cost. The devices are targeted for use in 100-GHz DWDM applications and are available at wavelengths covering the full C- and L-bands.
