Champion ONE now offers XGS-PON optical transceivers for optical line terminal (OLT) and optical network unit (ONU) applications for network operators moving to 10G PON in the fiber to the premises (FTTP) networks. The optical modules conform to ITU-T G.987.2 and G.9807.2 standards. The new line includes SFP+ and XFP optical transceivers for OLT applications and SFP+ modules for ONU applications over 20-km rated distances.

The company notes that a growing number of broadband access network operators are moving to XGS-PON as they look to upgrade their GPON FTTP networks. The ITU-T standards enable XGS-PON and GPON to coexist on the same FTTP infrastructure, which facilitates the transition to greater transmission rates.

“Network operators are deploying deeper fiber, copper/coax optimization, and next-generation radio access upgrades to support growing bandwidth demand among end-users,” said Champion ONE CEO John Jutila. “Our network architecture workshops with telecom infrastructure operators highlighted XGS-PON as one of several planned access technology upgrades. We are proud to be an integral partner with our customers to enhance their networks with this new application in our expanding portfolio of open port solutions.”

Champion ONE says the optical transceivers are compatible across OEM platforms and carry a 5-year warranty. They are available for immediate lab evaluation.
