NTT Communications Corp. (NTT Com, the ICT and international communications business within the NTT Group; TOKYO:9432) announced a new point of presence (PoP) in Manchester, UK at the Equinix MA4 Manchester IBX data centerto expand its Tier-1 Global IP Network. The data center is located in the Manchester Science Park.

Equinix's MA4 data center facilitates direct interconnection to IX Manchester and the London internet exchange, LINX, along with an array of cloud and network service providers. NTT says that this expansion will enable it to continue scaling its offerings to ISPs, content, cloud, CDN, and hosting providers in Manchester. NTT Com customers at MA4 will have connectivity to NTT Com's network of more than 140 data centers offered globally in over 20 countries and regions. NTT says it will offer 100G ports and various other capacity levels, with physical path diversity for reliability and quality of services.

Several of Europe's top digital media producers, broadcasters, enterprises, and financial services organizations are based out of the populous UK city of Manchester, making the MA4 Manchester IBX data center a strategic location.

In December of 2017, Equinix expanded its Equinix Internet Exchange into Manchester, and other new metros in EMEA and the United States, including Amsterdam, Denver, Dublin, Frankfurt, Houston, London, Milan, and Stockholm to enable internet traffic drivers (see "Equinix expands its internet exchange into nine EMEA, U.S. metro markets").

"We are thrilled to extend our footprint into one of the UK's biggest tech hubs to serve a vibrant community of Internet-centric businesses and organizations," said Michael Wheeler, executive vice president of NTT Communications Global IP Network at NTT America. "We chose this facility because it provides a centralized location, exceptional performance, and reliability that are an excellent match to our fully redundant Tier-1 IP backbone."

NTT Com's Global IP Network Service provides high-speed, high-capacity IP connectivity across Asia, North and Latin America, Europe, and Oceania (see "NTT Communications adds 100G to PC-1 submarine fiber cable"). In 2016, the company expanded its Tier-1 Global IT network with two new PoPs at e-shelter facilities in Berlin and Frankfurt (see "NTT plans network expansion with new PoPs in Germany").
