Lumos Networks Corp. and Spirit Communications will now operate under the brand Segra. Both communications services providers, which serve customers in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast U.S., are owned by EQT Partners. The Lumos Networks name will live on as Segra’s RLEC brand.

EQT, which bought Lumos Networks first, completed its purchase of Spirit in April 2018 (see "EQT completes majority stake investment in Spirit Communications, readies combination with Lumos Networks"). Integration work between the two service providers began at that time. At the same time, the companies have expanded their fiber-optic networks. This activity includes entering such new markets as Raleigh, Greensboro, and Fayetteville, NC.

“The management team and employees of the combined company have completed several integration projects to meet the strong demand we’re seeing for our products and services,” said Doug Gilstrap, chairman of the board for Segra. “As Segra, we look forward to meeting the needs of our customers and strengthening our company’s leadership position in service, reliability and product innovation.”

The combined company operates a fiber-optic network footprint that extends more than 21,000 miles and connects more than 9,000 on-net locations and 44 data centers. Segra continues to provide Ethernet, MPLS, dark fiber, advanced data center services, IP and managed services, voice, and cloud offerings. It markets to carriers, enterprises, governments, healthcare organizations, defense, education and small businesses.
