Greenlight Networks debuts gigabit FTTH service in Clifton Park, NY

Nov. 16, 2021
Greenlight Networks will be expanding its fiber-optic internet services in the Town of Clifton Park in 2022.

The city of Clifton Park, NY on Nov. 1 announced that it will newly bring high-speed, fiber-optic internet to thousands of homes in 2022. Clifton Park Town Supervisor Phil Barrett said the town is working with Greenlight Networks, a New York state-based ISP, on arrangements to allow the company to offer its high-speed fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) service to residents.

The municipality is also working with Greenlight on locations to house its network equipment within the town.

“Greenlight Networks will be expanding their services in the Town of Clifton Park in 2022, offering an additional option for high-speed fiber to the home, said Barrett. “The new internet service will provide Clifton Park residents with a new option for a service many people use every day.”

Greenlight’s fiber-optic network will deliver data speeds as high as 2 Gbps, with a base speed of 500 Mbps upload and download for $50 a month. Greenlight contends its Internet service "is five times faster and 25 percent less expensive than the incumbent cable provider, with no contracts, taxes or hidden fees." As further noted by the ISP, "fiber internet provides the best possible online experience for gaming or streaming high-quality video and supports simultaneous high-speed connections across multiple devices."

Greenlight plans to start providing service in Clifton Park in the summer of 2022 and expects to reach 3,600 households in the town with its fiber-optic internet service by the end of that year. The town of Clifton Park marks the first expansion into the Capital region for Greenlight Networks, which currently offers service in the Rochester, Buffalo and Binghamton regions.

“Our research shows a considerable amount of pent-up demand for high-speed broadband in the Capital Region and surrounding areas, so we’re extremely excited to bring the reliability and speed of a world-class internet connection to Clifton Park,” said Mark Murphy, CEO of Greenlight Networks. “The investment we are making in the area will help future-proof communities and foster additional growth and economic development across the area.”
