Tullahoma Utilities Authority is upgrading its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network with technology from Calix (NYSE:CALX). The central Tennessee municipal utility broadband provider plans to transition to 10 gigabit PON technology.
The upgrade includes the Calix E7-2 Modular Access Systems, GigaCenters, and 700GE optical network terminals (ONTs) at each premises, and Compass cloud for subscriber experience management.
TUA introduced its LightTUBe fiber services in 2008 and launched gigabit Internet services in 2012. The company has more than 200 miles of fiber within the city, serving nearly approximately 40% of the Tullahoma market with voice, data and video, including TV Everywhere.
Calix tends to specialize in municipal broadband, generally in rural areas. The company says it has deployed in more than 50 community-owned networks in 23 states.
