4 December 2003 Anaheim, CA Lightwave -- Mediacom Communications Corp., the nation's eighth largest cable television company, has deployed a carrier grade DWDM network based on optical equipment from Nortel Networks.
Mediacom is using Nortel's OPTera Metro 5200 Multiservice Platform to transport high-bandwidth, carrier-class communications throughout most of its service territories, including connectivity to major metropolitan cities.
"Our implementation of the optical transport technologies from Nortel Networks enables us to extend the backbone of our network across the footprint of our cable systems, allowing us to deliver new high-bandwidth services to many of our markets where they do not exist today," reports Joseph Van Loan, senior vice president of technology for Mediacom Communications. "These enhancements to our network also reduce our own communications costs between network facilities and our Internet backbone, as well as between our customer call centers."
"Nortel Networks optical solutions enable cable operators to address new revenue opportunities through the ability to deliver new optical broadband services to their customers," adds Rob Wood, vice president, Global Cable Solutions, Nortel Networks. "With Nortel Networks DWDM solutions in place, Mediacom is capable of broadening its service offerings while maintaining heightened levels of reliability and quality of service."
Nortel Networks Global Cable Solutions include integrated cable solutions spanning video and video-on-demand, voice and multimedia communications, high-speed data services, managed network services for business customers, and next-generation access.
