March 30, 2006 Huntsville, AL -- Adtran announced that it has enhanced its Carrier Ethernet capabilities by acquiring all of Luminous Networks' intellectual property (IP) and worldwide product rights. In addition to integrating the Luminous technologies into existing and future products, Adtran will also continue to manufacture certain Luminous products.
"This is another step in our long-established strategy to aid carriers in the migration to IP access architectures," comments Kevin Schneider, CTO of Adtran. "The acquisition of these technologies, used globally by service providers to deliver carrier-class Ethernet services, both strengthens and broadens our business service offerings."
"The market for Ethernet-based carrier services is growing at a rapid rate," maintains Michael Howard, principal analyst at Infonetics Research. "Our research indicates that a majority of service providers have deployed Ethernet collector rings in 2005, and the number is increasing, and many of these are offering Ethernet services over RPR, and more plan to in the near future. The addition of these technologies to Adtran's product line is a good move and will allow them to address this growing market with a full portfolio."
