Fiber-optic network and wireless service provider Agile Networks and Coriant say they have demonstrated rapid service activation and automated traffic optimization in a multi-layer software-defined networking (SDN) environment. The field trial leveraged Agile's fiber-optic network in Ohio and Coriant's Transcend SDN Packet Controller.
The field trial saw the partners leverage standards-based interfaces (e.g., RESTCONF/YANG) to enable automated provisioning of Ethernet and IP virtual private network (VPN) services via a web-based service portal. "Context-aware" routing capabilities within the Coriant 8600 Smart Router Series systems on the trial link helped enhance multi-layer traffic engineering and optimization, Coriant says.
"As we continue to increase connectivity in Ohio and expand our network into additional states, multi-layer SDN automation and control promises to significantly enhance our ability to accelerate service deployment and maximize end-to-end network efficiencies," said Kyle Quillen, CTO at Agile Networks. "We were extremely pleased with the results of the trial and the performance of the Coriant Transcend SDN Packet Controller."
