euNetworks deploys more hollowcore fiber on new UK route

Fiber-optic network services provider euNetworks Fiber UK Ltd. has completed a new route between Basildon and London in the UK that connects the ICE data center to Interxion LON1 & 2 and onwards to Slough. The more than 45-km route includes 14 km of hollowcore fiber from Lumenisity, the two companies say.

The new route is the longest commercial deployment of hollowcore fiber as well as the longest route to combine hollowcore with single-mode fiber, according to the companies. The addition of Lumenisity's CoreSmart hollowcore fiber cable enables a 10% increase in speed over an equivalent all single-mode fiber cable, euNetworks and Lumenisity add.

The new route, which will help provide the ultra-low latency that the financial markets demand, is the third deployment of hollowcore fiber euNetworks has completed (see “euNetworks decreases latency with Lumenisity hollowcore fiber cable deployment” and “euNetworks deploys more hollowcore fiber cable”).

“We have successfully delivered increasingly longer deployments of hollowcore fiber in our network, becoming the first fiber provider in the world to utilize the benefits of this new fiber technology in commercial markets,” said Paula Cogan, president of euNetworks. “From the initial 1-km pilot, the teams have gone on to deploy hollowcore cable lengths of 7 km and 14 km on our network, as well as successfully blending hollowcore fiber with regular single-mode fiber on this latest route. We continue to be focused on delivering the best possible bandwidth solutions for our customers and look forward to deploying longer routes with Lumenisity in the coming quarters. Leading the market in fiber-based ultra-low-latency services throughout Europe remains a key focus for euNetworks.”

The CoreSmart cable, which is based on Lumenisity’s NANF hollowcore technology, enables data to travel 50% faster, reducing latency by 33% and providing a round-trip reduciton of 3 μsec per kilometer, Lumenisity asserts.
