Internet exchange operator DE-CIX has deployed Infinera’s (NASDAQ:INFN) Cloud Xpress 2 data center interconnect platform in several of its locations, including New York City, Frankfurt, and Dallas. DE-CIX selected the platform for its capacity, simplicity, and ease of installation, Infinera asserts.

DE-CIX serves more than 1,300 carriers, internet service providers, and content networks from more than 100 countries. "DE-CIX is experiencing tremendous and unpredictable customer demand for interconnection services in major markets across the globe," said Daniel Melzer, CTO, DE-CIX. "Our customers request instant activation of high-capacity internet exchange services, and Cloud Xpress 2 with Instant Bandwidth enables us to deliver that to our customers. Cloud Xpress 2 is easy to install and is performing better than advertised for our data center interconnection requirements."

Infinera unveiled the Cloud Xpress 2 in 2016; the system reached general availability the next year (see “Infinera Cloud Xpress 2 sports Infinite Capacity Engine for data center interconnect” and “Infinera announces general availability, deployment of Cloud Xpress 2 data center interconnect platform”). The platform provides more horsepower (up to 1.2 Tbps of capacity for links up to 130 km) than the first-generation Cloud Xpress, thanks to its use of Infinera’s Infinite Capacity Engine.

Axians Networks & Solutions, a longtime partner of Infinera that has been involved in other projects for DE-CIX, implemented the Cloud Xpress 2 deployments.
