LiComm adds L-Band support to plug-and-play optical amplifier line

The new pluggable amplifiers build on the legacy LiComm created when it introduced what the company asserts is the world's first pluggable SFP+ EDFA at OFC 2019.

LiComm says it plans to introduce pluggable QSFP and XFP EDFAs that support L-Band transmission at OFC 2023 in San Diego, CA, March 7-9. The new pluggable amplifiers build on the legacy LiComm created when it introduced what the company asserts is the world's first pluggable SFP+ EDFA at OFC 2019 (see "LiComm offers SFP+-EDFA pluggable amplifier").

The company’s plug-and-play EDFA lineup includes devices that can amplify up to +19 dBm, ones that support gain flattening for DWDM systems, and modules for C-temp and I-temp grade performance. LiComm says such devices are in mass production.

The plug-and-play EDFAs make it easier and less costly to add optical amplification to a line system, which LiComm says enables their customers to focus on designing denser and more flexible systems. Such devices also can save opex by reducing the cost of maintenance and upgrades.

LiComm will display the new L-Band pluggable EDFAs and other elements of its product line at OFC 2023 in Booth 2730.
