Coriant says that it is supplying its packet-optical transport systems to Panama television service provider Cable Onda for upgrades to its DWDM backbone infrastructure. Coriant is collaborating with local partner Grupo Comtel for system delivery. The upgrade will enable Cable Onda to address increasing service capacity demand, while providing broadband to residential and business customers.

According to Coriant, Cable Onda is building on the optical transport systems provider's 7100 Nano Packet Optical Transport Platform to extend optical transport infrastructure capabilities with deployment of reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexing (ROADM), photonic switching, and other enhanced networking features. These capabilities will enable flexible, efficient network capacity management and enhance the resiliency of Cable Onda's end-user services, including high-definition TV, over-the-top (OTT) video, cloud, mobility, fixed IP, Internet, and digital telephony, Coriant says.

The 7100 Nano's flexible system architecture supports fabric-less switching for OTN, packet, and SONET/SDH, 10G and 100G transparent transport, and WDM with ROADM-on-a-blade or the Coriant Pluggable Optical Layer, enabling Cable Onda to meet diverse traffic needs, says Coriant. Cable Onda also will leverage the Coriant Transcend Software Suite, including the Coriant Transport Network Management System (TNMS), to facilitate end-to-end capacity provisioning.

"Keeping pace with today's rapidly evolving digital media and broadband applications requires innovation at all levels of our network," said Dagoberto Lara, Cable Onda's fixed network manager. "With best-in-class technology from Coriant and excellent local support provided by Comtel, we have been able to significantly advance the performance of our world-class infrastructure to benefit our customers today, and well into the future."
