Corning opens fiber production facility in Poland

Sept. 8, 2022
The plant will serve the fiber and cabling needs of customers within the European Union and surrounding regions.

Hot off of announcing plans to build a fiber cable manufacturing plant in Arizona (see “Backed by AT&T demand, Corning to build optical cable manufacturing plant in Arizona”), Corning Inc. (NYSE: GLW) says it has formally a similar new facility in Mszczonów, Poland. The plant will serve the fiber needs of customers within the European Union and surrounding regions.

The facility will add approximately 250 people to Corning’s employee roster in Poland and brings the total there to more than 3,000. The company manufactures optical cable and connectivity components at a campus in Stryków as well. Corning calls the new facility one of the largest in the European Union. The company says it has spent more than $500 million on new production facilities since 2020.

“Corning is expanding its fiber manufacturing operations in Europe as our customers accelerate investments in future-ready networks,” said Corning Chairman and CEO Wendell P. Weeks. “From broadband to 5G to cloud computing, tomorrow’s networks all depend on optical fiber. This facility will ensure we can continue to efficiently serve our customers in Europe and beyond. We appreciate the support of state and local officials and the dedication of our skilled workforce.”

“We congratulate Corning on the opening of this advanced manufacturing facility for the fiber that forms the backbone of the internet,” added Józef Kurek, mayor of Mszczonów. “High-speed connections will come to more people and more communities in Europe thanks to the fiber that Corning will make here in Mszczonów. We are pleased that Corning turned again to this region's talented workforce to bring its innovations to life.”
