June 15, 2006 Hickory, NC -- US Conec has introduced the Durofan kit, which provides transition from jacketed ribbon to individual 2.0-mm protected legs. According to the company, the Durofan ribbon breakout system is more durable than bare ribbon and 900-um fan-outs, and it is more cost effective.

The molded snap-fit transition body protects the 250-um fibers passing from ribbon to individual legs. The ribbon jacket and strain relief yarn is crimped to the molded transition body with 30-lb removal force. Each 2.0-mm leg is preinstalled into the fan-out holder, which drops into the main transition body for simple installation.

The Durofan kit is very easy for field installation onto jacketed ribbon, including high-fiber count trunks, say company representatives. The system also is ideal for lab use to prevent inadvertent damage to fibers used in test systems.

These unterminated kits are available in standard 12-fiber configurations with 1-meter long jacketed legs. Custom lengths also are available. The 2.0-mm jacketed legs come in orange, yellow, aqua, and industry standard multi-colors.
