Optelian offers MPX-9103 hardened muxponder for 100-Gbps fiber networks

April 17, 2018
Optelian has unveiled the MPX-9103 100G hardened (OSP compliant) muxponder. The platform muxes ten 10-Gbps client-side inputs into a 100-Gbps line-side output, which Optelian expects will be useful for 5G upgrades, remote business services access, and cable operator fiber deep architectures where a temperature-controlled hub, node, or other shelter isn't available.

The 1RU MPX-9103 leverages pluggable 100-Gbps CFP optical transceivers to support a range of interface requirements, including SR, LR, and DCO. The system also provides full Optical Transport Network (OTN) capability.

In addition to supporting 5G fronthaul and backhaul efforts, the MPX-9103 will provide service providers with the flexibility to enable remote100G capacity expansion without the upgrading the fiber infrastructure, the company says. The MPX-9103 complements Optelian's existing portfolio of hardened optical systems.

"Demand is growing for high-bit-rate edge devices, so we are excited to launch a best-in-class 100G OSP solution that achieves 100G transport capacity while utilizing the advances in 100G CFP technology," said Scott Agnew, vice president of R&D, Optelian. "In addition, the MPX-9103 provides the reliability, extended operating temperature, and much shallower depth expected for smaller OSP cabinets."

The NEBS-qualified MPX-9103 is currently available.
