Optelian offers two new 100G muxponders

Nov. 23, 2015
Optical transport systems developer Optelian has unveiled a pair of new muxponders to complement its MPX-9110 unit. The 1RU MPX-9105 offers a 100-Gbps metro/regional muxponder with a lower initial cost than the 9110, while the MPX-9102 multi-service muxponder provides 100-Gbps capabilities for network edge, CPE, and data center applications.

Optical transport systems developer Optelian has unveiled a pair of new muxponders to complement its MPX-9110 unit (see "Optelian enters 100G market with MPX-9110"). The 1RU MPX-9105 offers a 100-Gbps metro/regional muxponder with a lower initial cost than the 9110, while the MPX-9102 multi-service muxponder provides 100-Gbps capabilities for network edge, CPE, and data center applications.

As is the case with the MPX-9110, the MPX-9105 supports a mix of services at 10, 40, or 100 Gbps over a single 100-Gbps transport wavelength.

"Our 100G family has been further optimized to target metro and regional deployments. Low cost, small footprint, low power consumption, and ease of deployment results in capex and opex savings to network operators," said Optelian CEO David Weymouth of the MPX-9105. "Service providers, data centers, and enterprise customers, especially in R&E, will appreciate a quick ROI."

The MPX-9102 also features a 1RU form factor. It supports up to 10 multi-protocol 10G client interfaces multiplexed over a single 100G "open optics" CFP interface.

The muxponder also features a comprehensive performance monitoring capability set and supports General Communications Channel for in-band remote network management, Optelian says. These attributes help ensure service availability and lower service recovery time, thus decreasing OPEX and total cost of ownership.
