VCSEL and photodector specialists VI Systems say they have demonstrated single-lane 200-Gbps transmission based on PAM4 over 100 m of 50/125-um multimode fiber. The demonstration, conducted with what the company called “one of the leading telecom network system companies,” used a VI Systems’ fiber-coupled 850-nm VCSEL module.

The experiment highlighted the data transmission benefits of digital signal processing (DSP) functions including timing recovery (TR), partial response (PR), noise cancellation (NC), and maximum likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE), according to VI Systems. IEEE Photonics Technology Letters has published a description of the experiment.

VI Systems will display its line of fiber-coupled VCSEL and photodetector modules at OFC in San Diego, CA, from Mar 8-10, 2022, in Booth 5505.
