Hisense Broadband Multimedia Technology Co., Ltd. is using this week’s OFC 2023 conference and exhibition in San Diego to debut an 800G linear driver optical cable for use in AI/ML applications. The Optical Direct Attach Cable (oDAC) offers 100 Gbps per lane while obviating the need for a DSP and CDR, thus reducing cost, latency, and power consumption.
The oDAC can be used in ways similar to a direct attach cable (DAC) but will provide longer reach than its copper-based counterpart. HiSense Broadband complements the benefits of linear drive with an optimized transmitter and receiver optical platform that minimizes reflection and improves system linearity via its signal integrity design. The oDAC demonstrates a power consumption as low as 4 W per 800G OSFP end, according to the company.
By leveraging the increasingly powerful equalization and compensation capabilities of the switch, HiSense Broadband says that it has demonstrated 5e-7 pre-FEC BER floor over 50-m OM4 multimode fiber with ~10-dB channel loss. Further, no uncorrectable post-FEC error was observed after a 24-hour traffic test.
HiSense Broadband will display the oDAC, its newly announced 800-Gbps bidirectional (BiDi) QSFP-DD SR4.2 optical transceiver, and other products at OFC March 7-9 in Booth 6116.
